Google them if you want to know what they do, tons of resources out there for this old game. Here are some commands you can play with, copy/paste them into the autoexec config file. But better yet, you should create an "autoexec.cfg" file (should also be in baseq3) and put your custom settings in this file. I'd also recommend you grab the high resolution texture pack by Kpax, unzip the file to the baseq3 folder and enjoy.Įdit: In baseq3 you'll find q3config.cfg, open it with a text editor, the settings can be tweaked from this file. You'll need to set r_mode "-1" for custom resolutions, along with turbo_exe's recommendations. Pull down the console and type this: /rmode -1. You can also set r_lodbias "0" for better geometric detail (going with higher numbers sets detail lower). Use windowed mode (r_fullscreen "0") if you're using any resolution other than native. I recommend using this mod together with High Quality Quake (to improve the user interface elements) Īnd Quake Arcade Assets (better models for the weapons and armor) Moddb. If you're not using your monitor's native resolution in full screen the graphics will look off. I'd welcome any changes or additions people have, if they fit in with the originals. Some of them scaled better than others (and a few just aren't any better). TBH as it's usually not obvious beyond the short/middle distance I do wonder if it's worth it, but it makes me feel happy The only time it bothers me is in contrast to what is nowadays very simple geometry. Since I'm happy with how UT looks with said pack, but I do play Q3 as well still and didn't want it to have the indignity of blurrier textures, I gave the upscaling thing a shot.

Textures are generally simpler (bricks, metal thing, wood, etc) though they do end up creating more varied levels visually. It also has very detailed textures (for the resolution). rcustomaspect 1, toggle the use of custom screen resolution/sizes. It can't be done halfway, or with textures that don't match just right stylistically. quit, quit arena and quit Quake 3 Arena and return to your OSThanx for flying. Quake 3 goes heavy on the consistency: it's almost all trenchcoat/fedora skulls and stuff. The handmade HD pack for UT99 doesn't stand out as bad: the textures in UT weren't nearly as cohesive. See the skull block on the bottom of the column:

Textures are of course indistinguishable from the originals at a distance they just don't get blurry up close. All world, object and player textures done, though I'd like to tweak some. So, upscaling!Ĭombo of waifu2x and SFTGAN. There's a handmade HD texture pack, but the textures in Quake 3 all seem to fit with each other to a degree I don't see in some other titles, and the handmade ones weren't very accurate and clashed badly with the originals IMHO.
